THE FREEDOM PRIZE IS AN EDUCATIONAL PROJECT DISCLAIMS IN THREE STEPS------------------------------------
The Freedom Award is an initiative of the Normandy Region, in partnership with the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace, the Academic Authorities of Normandy, the Canopé network and Ouest France. It allows young people from any country, aged 15-25, to nominate each year a personality or an organization engaged in an exemplary fight for freedom. The 2019 edition was articulated around an educational device in 3 main stages, encouraging the involvement of young people from one end to the other of the process:
1) A call for applications, launched from June 6, 2018 to January 15, 2019, to propose personalities or organizations: 113 files were received, proposing 100 different applications
2) An international jury, composed of 30 young people from 15 to 25 years old (12 internationals, 7 national, 11 Normans) who met on 8 and 9 February 2019 in Caen to select the three finalist candidates: Greta Thunberg, Raif Badawi and Lu Guang were selected by the jury.

GRETA THUNBERG WINNER OF THE 2019 LIBERTY AWARD WITH 41.67% VOICES--------------------------------------
After the online vote, Greta Thunberg was awarded the Freedom Award with 41.67% of the vote. Raif Badawi obtained 37.21% of the votes and Lu Guang 19.68% (1.44% of the white votes). Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old Swedish high school student, has become known for her fight against the inaction of Heads of State and Government and lack of awareness of the climate emergency. She misses school every Friday to protest in the Stockholm Parliament. In particular, she took part in C0P24, in December 2018 in Katowice (Poland), and at the Davos Economic Forum (Switzerland) in early 2019.
"I am very honored and very grateful to receive the Freedom Award. This award is for the entire Fridays For Future movement because we did that together. The fight for climate justice is a struggle for freedom because the climate crisis will affect the lives of many people. Billions of people are likely to have their lives ruined by this crisis with floods, droughts, extreme weather ... In the future, the climate crisis is likely to be the cause of many conflicts and wars. It threatens the entire civilization and it is the people who are the least responsible who will pay the highest price. We have to face the climate crisis to save lives, "said Greta Thunberg. Greta Thunberg has decided to donate the entire prize to four organizations committed to climate justice: CARE - helping women and girls in southern countries to fight the effects of rising temperatures and climate change , The Adaptation Fund - helping vulnerable communities in developing countries adapt and fight climate change, 350.org and Greenpeace International, both fighting for climate justice, the environment and against climate change extraction of fossil fuels.
LAUNCH OF THE SECOND EDITION OF THE LIBERTY AWARD------------------------------------------------------------------
On the occasion of this ceremony in honor of Greta Thunberg, Hervé Morin, President of the Normandy Region, officially launched the second edition of the Freedom Award.
