USPA NEWS - The Plenary of the Congress of Deputies rejected this Wednesday by 53 votes in favor, 201 against and 91 abstentions the motion of censure against the Spanish Government chaired by the Socialist Pedro Sánchez and presented by 52 deputies from the extreme right party Vox and which proposed to Ramón Tamames as a candidate for the Presidency of the Executive. For the approval of the censure of the Government, an absolute majority is required.
The debate on the motion of censure began on Tuesday at 9:00 in the morning – Spanish time – with the intervention of the president of VOX, Santiago Abascal, on behalf of the signatories of the motion of censure and for their defense. Next, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, went up to the speakers' rostrum. They could intervene without a time limit, as established in articles 177 et seq. of the Regulations of Congress, which regulate the development of the debate. After his interventions, the proposed candidate for the Presidency of the Executive took the floor to present his political program, also without a time limit. In response, the President of the Government and the Second Vice President and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, intervened.
This Wednesday, the session started at 9:00 am with the intervention of the spokespersons of the Popular and Socialist groups. The candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Ramón Tamames, responded to their interventions jointly and the President of the Government also took the floor.
Once all the interventions had finished, the motion was voted on. Voting is public by call, as regulated in articles 85 and 86 of the Regulations of Congress. One of the secretaries named the deputies in alphabetical order of the first last name, beginning with the deputy whose name is drawn by lot, deputy Miguel Angel Quintanilla. The Government and the Table voted last. Their lordships responded from their seat "yes", "no" or "abstention". The motion of no confidence was rejected by 53 votes in favor, 201 against, and 91 abstentions. It is understood that it was approved by an absolute majority, which did not happen on this occasion.
