Gunman kidnaps child from Alabama school bus, 1 dead

At least one person was shot dead and a child taken hostage, after a suspected gunman attacked a school bus in Alabama, local authorities said Tuesday. According to the Dale County`s Sheriff`s Office, the incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. local time when a gunman boarded a school bus and took a child hostage, local media reported, unofficially identifying the suspect as Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65. Reports also indicate that he shot the bus driver around four times before taken a 6-year-old child hostage.
The child was reported safe but remains with the suspect in a bunker behind his house near Midland City, Alabama. Sheriff Wally Olson confirmed that the suspect had not been taken into custody, but few details were immediately disclosed as the situation is ongoing.
