PEACE IS STILL POSSIBLE IS THE THEME OF NEXT MEETING FOR PEACE BY ST EGIDIO

USPA NEWS - The International Meeting "Men and Religions", organised by the Sant'Egidio Community, which reaches its 29th edition this year takes place from 6 to 8 September in Tirana, Albania, on the theme "PEACE IS STILL POSSIBLE - Religions and Cultures in Dialogue ".

THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WILL BE MEETING WITH RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO DEBATE AND PRAY "SPIRIT OF ASSISI"AGAINST CONFLICTS-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thousands of people will be meeting in the Albanian capital from September 6 to 8 with religious leaders and experts from international development, environmental and social inequality organisations to launch concrete proposals to stop the conflicts Albania, a country with the fastest-Muslim presence in Europe, the first European nation visited by Pope Francis, after a long transition from dictatorship and poverty to a democratic framework and development, is now a model cohabitation between religions and cultures.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tirana will host the "spirit of Assisi" (since the first prayer for historic peace desired by John Paul II in the city of St. Francis) in a year marked by conflicts that seem to have no end, like the one weighs on Syria, and by the threats of terrorism. This will be discussed during the International Meeting, which will also discuss how to build peace, and many other topics that closely concern the future of the world as the theme of the environment or social inequalities in continents like Africa and Latin America. Recognising that religions can play a fundamental role in the act of saying "no" to war and all forms of violence, important personalities from all continents will be present in Tirana, starting with Europe, still searching his fate after the Greek crisis and struggling with the management of the phenomenon of migrants. In the conviction that peace is always possible, we will talk with many representatives of the Catholic world, culture and inter religious dialogue, as well as representatives at the highest level of states and European institutions.
