On September 24, 2015, Iraqi-British Architect Zaha Hadid, became the first female winner of the Royal Institute of British Architects´ royal gold medal. It was after Jean Nouvel, Frank Gehry or Oscar Niemeyer.
She studied mathematics at the American University of Beirut before moving to London in 1972 to attend the Architectural Association (AA) School where she was awarded the Diploma Prize in 1977...
She was made Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Fellow of the American Institute of Architecture and Commander of the British Empire, 2002 and was the Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor of Architectural Design at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.

Other awards include UNESCO naming Hadid as an “˜Artist for Peace´, the Republic of France honouring Hadid with the “˜Commandeur de l´Ordre des Arts et des Lettres´, TIME magazine included her in their list of the “˜100 Most Influential People in the World´ and in 2012, Zaha Hadid was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.
Zaha Hadid was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize, considered the Nobel Prize of architecture, in 2004.

"There is a discourse between architects and designers. This may be privy to those people and may not affect the public for a long time (in built form), but it's important for that research to take place because eventually it does have a trickling effect. So that's what really drives me."
She is 'consistently pushes the boundaries of architecture and urban design. Her work experiments with spatial quality, extending and intensifying existing landscapes in the pursuit of a visionary aesthetic that encompasses all fields of design, ranging from urban scale through to products, interiors and furniture.'
